Rain Chasers

Wildebeests are rain chasers. They chase the rains and fresh grass all year round. They mate according to the rain cycle and give birth according to the rain cycle. But their most impressive feat is when they jump down deep gorges and cross crocodile infested rivers to chase the rains, and the fresh grass it offers.

Wildebeest river crossings have eluded me in the past. I have waited for days and not seen a single animal cross over.  However, this year, I witnessed three big crossings, this one being the most dramatic. A crossing of over 5000 individuals, it was mayhem. The sights, the sounds, and the dust, all making for an extraordinary viewing experience.
